Indirect Steam Generator
Industrial Boilers
Indirect Steam Generator: If fire-tube, large water-content boilers are unsuitable, heat the process with a thermal-oil heater and produce steam as needed.
Indirect Steam Generator: up to 30,000 kg/h, ≈21,000 kW (≈30,000 hp) and 60 bar (870 psig); delivers saturated/superheated steam.
Indirect Steam Generator – Advantages
- In indirect steam generators, there is no need for a flue system, burner, fuel supply or storage; this lowers costs and reduces space requirements.
- Compared to conventional boilers, they offer a compact, simple design; smaller footprint and lower weight. No ventilation is required.
- Heating media for the Indirect Steam Generator: Thermal oil, hot water, steam, waste oil or other hot process fluids.
- Precise steam–pressure control.
- Reduced complexity and fewer moving parts enable easy maintenance and lower service costs.
- TSB Energy control system with a user-friendly interface.
- 24/72-hour unattended operation lowers operating costs.
- Custom design to customer needs; high process reliability, remote control available.
- Software support from installation through operational maintenance.
- PLC integration via Modbus, Profibus, etc.; seamless integration into any industrial process.
- Fast response to sudden steam demands.
- Dedicated steam separator for dry steam production.
- Vertical or horizontal design options.
- Optional all-stainless construction for indirect clean steam applications.
- Heating coils can be easily removed and cleaned.
- Hygienic steam generator available in AISI 316Ti or Duplex stainless steel.
- Many years of experience in industrial/commercial boiler technology.
- Large steam and water volume ensures low pressure fluctuations.
- Large heating surface allows fast load changes; no carryover.
- High-efficiency electric motors for low power consumption.
- Primary-side control: 2-way valve for steam, 3-way valve for thermal oil for precise regulation.
- With a 2-bar differential, economical and hygienic steam can be produced from the plant’s own steam.
- Large steam disengagement surface eliminates water carryover.
- Hygienic steam option in stainless steel.
- U-tube bundle design.
- Heat transfer occurs directly in the steam chamber water; delivers 99.95% purity high-quality steam throughout the operating range.
- Delivered ready to run on a single skid; only electrical power, feedwater, and steam line connections are required.
Note: With thermal oil temperatures up to 350 °C, it is possible to produce saturated steam up to 60 bar, as well as hot water or high-temperature air.
Design
All generators are designed and manufactured according to TS EN 13445, Lloyd’s rules, DIN/EN, PED 2014/68/EU and ASME Sec. VIII Div.1.
All electrical components are UL-listed and wired per NEC requirements.
Indirect Steam Generators are not subject to TRD, EN 12952 or EN 12953.
Our ISG provides high efficiency and safety, easy maintenance and long service life. TSB ENERGY indirect steam generators are designed to pay off in operation, not just at purchase.
With university-supported R&D, solar energy can be focused via advanced optics and transferred directly to thermal oil such as Therminol VP-1. With oil temperatures up to 400 °C, both thermal-oil vapor and indirect steam production are possible.
Ease of Use & Maintenance
User-friendly PLC–HMI control; easy access to components.
One-button start, automatic self-monitoring, and usage-based maintenance alerts provide safe, intuitive operation.
All safety devices are monitored by the PLC; in alarm conditions, safety functions are activated.
Active/history alarms are viewed via HMI; dry contacts provide signals to other systems.
Remote data acquisition and status monitoring via Modbus, Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet.
Safety
Advanced safety features such as overpressure protection, sequenced water level protection, and emergency shutdown are standard.
Materials
Industrial type: Shells and heads in EN 10028-2 P355GH; nozzles and exchanger tubes in EN 10216-2 P235GH/P265GH seamless boiler tube.

For individual questions, please request expert consulting.
What is an Indirect Steam Generator?
It uses thermal oil, steam, or hot water as the primary energy source; via a flanged tube bundle/heat exchanger, heat is transferred to water to produce steam (or superheated steam) in a closed pressure vessel.
When to Use an Indirect Steam Generator?
When sufficient primary energy (capacity/temperature) is available; when burner exhaust discharge is not feasible; where open flames are prohibited; or where fuel supply is constrained.
Selecting the Ideal Indirect Steam Generator
If steam demand varies by 1.5–2× during the day, consider redundant units.
With a common steam header and check-valve balancing, the standby unit starts automatically as demand rises, maintaining stable operation.
