Effective Methods of Sterilization

  • Vegetative bacteria die within seconds at 85°C.
  • Application of moist heat under pressure is the most effective sterilization method.
  • Laboratory tests show that moist heat has a stronger lethal effect on microorganisms compared to dry heat.
  • The latent heat of steam structurally destroys microorganisms in a short time.
  • The goal is to ensure that all parts of the material to be sterilized are exposed to saturated steam at the required pressure for sufficient time.
  • Therefore, materials should not be stacked tightly or placed on top of each other.

Sterilization Autoclave Process Sequence

  1. Products are placed into the autoclave with gaps in between.
  2. Before sterilization starts, saturated steam is introduced to remove the air inside.
    1. Air is removed either by pre-vacuum or via an air vent trap on top of the autoclave.
  3. When the required temperature and pressure are reached, the sterilization period begins.
  4. The angled and balanced distribution of steam supply nozzles reduces the risk of deformation in glass materials.
  5. At the end of the process, steam is discharged, and the safety relief valve is opened to fully evacuate steam.
    1. Otherwise, remaining steam droplets turn into water when the lid is opened and wet the materials.
  6. In systems with a vacuum pump, the autoclave is vacuumed after the process, and filtered air is introduced to solve this problem.

Sterilization Autoclave Working Principle

Sterilization devices are classified as “B”, “S”, and “N” according to EU standard EN 13060. They all achieve the same sterilization; the only difference is the duration.
Class B: Uses a vacuum pump before, during partial intervals, and after sterilization. It is the fastest and most effective method.
Class S: Uses a vacuum pump before and after sterilization.
Class N: Has no vacuum pump. The sudden steam pressure entering the system pushes air bubbles to the top and vents them through the outlet valve.

Design

TSB Energy sterilization autoclaves are designed and manufactured in compliance with EN 13445, AD-2000 Merkblatt, Lloyd’s rules, TRD, DIN, EN, PED 2014/68/EC, EAC (GOST), cGMP, ISO 13485, and ASME Section VIII Div 1 standards.
Our autoclaves can be manufactured in horizontal or vertical construction, with single or double doors, manual or hydraulic-pneumatic hinged door options, and with top or side opening configurations.
All electrical components of our sterilization autoclaves are UL labeled and wired in accordance with the current National Electrical Code requirements.

The high-load jaw parts undergo ultrasonic inspection (ultrasonic testing) before assembly to check internal structure, and fatigue tests are performed with analysis programs to verify the integrity of the jaws. Depending on customer requests and facility layout, door opening and closing mechanisms are custom-designed.

Our sterilization autoclaves are delivered ready to operate, in a compact structure on a single skid. All that is required is to connect the unit to electricity and cooling water.

TSB Energy autoclaves are designed to save you money not when you buy, but while you use them.

Ease of Use and Maintenance

Our sterilization autoclaves simplify operation and maintenance processes with user-friendly controls and easy access to components, minimizing downtime and operating costs.
The one-touch start feature enables the device to self-check and stop the system in case of possible faults. The control panel, which provides summarized maintenance instructions based on usage time, makes autoclave operation reliable and comprehensible for operators.
Thanks to remote connection support, our technical service can intervene quickly anywhere in the world.

Commissioning is carried out by our expert and experienced engineers with full-day practical training, supported by comprehensive training documentation and direct on-device training.

Safety

All safety devices are monitored by the PLC. In case of alarm, necessary safety interlocks are activated. The operator controls the sterilization autoclave via the HMI, where active and historical alarms can also be monitored.
Alarm and operating data can be transmitted to other systems via digital contacts (dry contacts). Additionally, remote data collection and status monitoring are possible with ModBus, Modbus TCP/IP, and Profinet protocols.

Our sterilization autoclaves are equipped with advanced safety features including overpressure and overtemperature protection, vacuum protection, RF sensor door locking, Pilz coded safety relays, mechanical locking systems, and emergency shutdown mechanisms.

The door does not open until internal pressure reaches atmospheric level and temperature is at a safe level.

Material

The shells and heads of our sterilization autoclaves are manufactured from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel sheets in accordance with EN 10028-7, depending on operating conditions. Nozzle pipes are produced from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel pipes conforming to EN 10216-2. Jaw manufacturing is carried out from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless forged steel or cold-drawn material.

Efficiency

All structure, including front and rear doors, is insulated with 50 mm thick ceramic wool with 1260°C temperature resistance and 128 kg/m³ density. This minimizes heat loss.

Environmentally Friendly Design

Our sterilization autoclaves fed by electric steam boilers provide zero emissions and support your industrial systems with clean energy. There are no COx, NOx, or SOx emissions. They help reduce your carbon footprint and achieve your carbon-neutral goals.

What is a Sterilization Autoclave?

A sterilization autoclave is an industrial sterilization device that eliminates microorganisms using saturated steam and pressure. It typically operates at temperatures between 110°C and 135°C and at 1 – 3 bar pressure. Thanks to its stainless steel chamber, it is long-lasting and its automatic control and safety systems make it user-friendly. It is widely used in the food, medical, laboratory, chemical, and textile industries to ensure product hygiene, extend shelf life, and provide safe usage for human health.

When is a Sterilization Autoclave Used?

Sterilization autoclaves are used when high hygiene standards are required. They are preferred for ensuring the safe consumption of heat-resistant packaged foods, sterilizing medical and laboratory equipment, and creating sterile environments in chemical processes.
